
Frank Gay Commercial Services is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Commercial Electrical Estimator to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for accurately estimating the costs of electrical projects in the commercial sector. This role requires a meticulous attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and a deep understanding of electrical systems and construction practices. The Commercial Electrical Estimator will collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and clients to ensure that projects are completed within budget and according to specifications.
Compensation:
- $22.00 - $25.00 + $960.00 car allowance and quarterly bonus potential up to $3,000.00
Responsibilities:
- Project Analysis: Analyze project documents, including drawings, specifications, and contracts, to determine the scope of work, materials required, and labor costs.
- Maintain estimating logs and unit costs for all projects

- Cost Estimation: Prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for electrical projects, including materials, labor, equipment, and overhead expenses.
- Bid Preparation: Prepare comprehensive bids and proposals in response to invitations to tender (ITT) or requests for proposals (RFPs), ensuring compliance with project requirements and deadlines.
- Vendor and Subcontractor Coordination: Source and negotiate pricing with vendors and subcontractors, ensuring the selection of reliable and cost-effective suppliers.
- Value Engineering: Identify opportunities for cost savings and value engineering solutions without compromising quality or safety standards.
- Risk Assessment: Conduct risk assessments and identify potential project risks, developing strategies to mitigate and manage them effectively.
- Establish and maintain vendor relationships
- Perform site surveys and attend pre-bid walkthroughs
- Interact with the sales & project management teams to ensure all projects are performed under budget & according to plans and specifications
- Collecting information about the client’s business needs and goals, including square footage requirements, material types, requirements, etc.
- Calculating the cost of materials & labor required to complete the project, including taxes and fees to ensure we maintain required margins
- Creating an estimate of materials & labor costs based on the scope of the job, including any materials that need to be purchased & any equipment that needs to be rented or purchased
- Preparing proposals for projects according to scope and cost for Outside Sales Reps
- Communicating regularly with Outside Sales Team, Commercial Sales Manager and appropriate Service Managers or Field Supervisors to provide updates on project progress & address any concerns or issues
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as an Electrical Estimator, preferably in the commercial construction sector.
- Strong understanding of electrical systems, codes, and regulations, with the ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Proficiency in estimating software and tools such as Accubid, ConEst, or similar programs.
- Excellent analytical and mathematical skills, with the ability to accurately calculate quantities, costs, and timelines.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with internal teams, clients, and external stakeholders.
- Proven negotiation and vendor management skills, with the ability to secure competitive pricing and favorable terms.
- Problem-solving mindset with the ability to anticipate challenges and develop proactive solutions.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
- Knowledge of different types of Plumbing jobs & systems and their components
- Experience with Service Titan & XOi software and estimating systems preferred
- Thorough understanding of related trades for the purposes of coordinating various project estimates
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
- Deadline and detail-oriented
- Must be able to walk, stand, sit, stoop, kneel, climb stairs, reach overhead, push, pull, lift and carry up to 30 lbs.
